Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on June 6, 1698, again on March 24, 1703 and confirmed on October 16, 1817.
The arms may be decorated with the French War Cross 1914-1918.
The arms combine the old arms of Givet and the arms of the Charlemont fortress next to the village.
The gun refers to the important military past of the town and its fortress. The three towers are the Victoire, Grégoire and Maugis towers in the town.
