Origin/meaning

The sword is a symbol of St. Paul, the personal patron of the bishop. The letters alpha and omega symbolise Revelation 21:6 ("I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End."). The colours are derived from the arms of Brno where the bishop was born. The motto "Via, veritas, vita" is from John 14:6 ("I am the way and the truth and the life."). The author of the arms is Jan Oulík.
