Ragnitz
RAGNITZ
State :Steiermark
District :Leibnitz
German | blazon wanted |
English | blazon wanted |
Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on December 2, 1991.
The name of Ragnitz is derived from a Slav word "raka", meaning crayfish. So a crayfish takes the most prominent place in the arms. The three ornamented locks symbolise the three municipalities united in 1968 to form Ragnitz municipality and three local castles (in German, Schloss can mean "lock" and "castle"). The three water lily leaves in the base are the arms of the lords of Wildon, a family very important in the Middle Ages. They owned land in the region.
