SAKHALIN OBLAST (Сахалинская область)

Coat of arms (crest) of Sakhalin Oblast
Official blazon
Russian blazon wanted
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on April 16, 1997.

The arms show a 17th century Russian Cossack koch (boat) between two volcanoes.
The boat refers to the fact that the island of Sachalin and the neighbouring Kuril islands were settled by Russians and thus symbolises the ties with the mainland. The boat also refers to fishing, one of the main economic activities on the islands.

The volcanoes refer to the volcanic geology of the islands.
