History: Raised 1633 by Sir John Hepburn by Royal Warrant granted by Charles I for service in France. Returned to England in 1661 and known succesivly as Hepburn's, Douglas's and Dumbarton's Regiments. Becoming in 1679 The Royal Regiment of Foot.
Regimental Headquarters: The Castle, Edinburgh.
