Escudo de Veciana

Official blazon

Escut caironat: de gules, un mont de sable movent de la punta somat d'un falcó d'or i acostat de 2 calderes d'or. Per timbre, una corona mural de poble.

Origin/meaning

These arms have been officially granted on 8th July 1996.

The history of Veciana has been linked originally with the four castles inside this municipality, created in the 19th century: Veciana, Miralles, Segur and Montfalcó el Gros. The castle of Veciana (11th century), after belonging to the bishops of Vic and to the Crown, passed to the barony of Segur; the first barons were the Calders, symbolized by the cauldrons Or on Gules, taken from their canting arms ("calder" means in Catalan a cauldron).

The falcon on the mount is a canting allusion to the castle of Montfalcó, named before.
