Escudo de Alt Áneu

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on December 14, 1989.

The arms show the complexity of this large Pyrenean municipality, formed in 1970 by the union of four former ones: València d'Àneu (with its local castle and two straws, "palles" in Catalan, symbol of the counts of Pallars), Gil (symbolised by the local patron saint, St. John the Baptist), Sorpe (symbolized by a chamois) and Son (the cross refers to the local patron saints, Justus and Pastor).
