Origin/meaning
The arms were granted in 1925.
Krāslava was initially the marketplace and a ship pilots' settlement. It was called Kreslau, Koslow, Kraslaw in German, Kreslawka in Polish.
In the 18th century the owner of Krāslava, count Johan Ludwig Plater developed the very advanced town with rather significant industry. In 1923 city rights were granted.
The arms were granted in 1925: an ancient ship with sail and five oars. Every oar means one of five main nationalities, inhabiting Krāslava: Latvians, Russians, Jews, Poles and Belarussians.
