NORTHAM
State : Western Australia
Official blazon
Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on October 2, 1953.
Northam is a town in a rich area of rural holdings of wheat and sheep mixed farms, symbolized by the sheaves of wheat and the sheep. The wavy lines refer to the River Avon, whose weir creates a lake, sanctuary for both native black swans and their imported European white cousins. The bezants indicate that Northam is the commercial hub of the rich and fertile Avon Valley. The supporters allude to the town as a centre for horse-racing and other associated sports.
