Origin/meaning

The arms are in use since 1994.

The arms show the crossed keys for the Alfoz de Alcaraz, the winged hand for the marquisate of Villena and in the base the Order of Santiago, the main rulers in the current province of Albacete. The inescutcheon shows the arms of the city of Albacete.

Until 1956 the province used the arms of the city of Albacete as arms.

In 1956 the province adopted very complicated arms which combined the arms of the main towns in the province : Albacete, Yeste, Alcaraz, Chinchilla de Monte-Aragón, Hellín, La Roda, Casas-Ibáñez, Almansa, with an inescutcehon of the arms of Castille, Bourbon and again a part of the city arms of Albacete.

Arms (crest) of Albacete (province)

These arms were abandoned in 1994.
