ŠPIŠIĆ BUKOVICA

County : Virovitica-Podravina

Arms of Špišić Bukovica

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially adopted in 2009.

The arms refer to the feast of St. John the Baptist at midsummer when traditionally bonfires are lit in Špišić Bukovica, the same day also being the Day of the Community. The seven logs stand for the sevenvillages of the community.

Previously Špišic Bukovica used a complex coat of arms including the Slavonian marten, lions with sabres from Virovitica coat of arms, a church, and so on all encircled with symbols of the local flora in green shield. According to the community officials, the coat of arms after adoption has been rejected by the Ministry of Administration, and is not used any more.
