357TH FIGHTER SQUADRON, US AIR FORCE
History: Constituted as 357 Fighter Squadron, and activated, on 12 November 1942. Redesignated as 357 Fighter Squadron, Single Engine, on 20 August 1943. Inactivated on 20 November 1946. Redesignated as 357 Fighter-Interceptor Squadron on 11 September 1952. Activated on 1 November 1952. Discontinued on 8 March 1960. Redesignated as 357 Tactical Fighter Squadron on 13 April 1962. Organized on 8 July 1962. Inactivated on 10 December 1970. Activated on 15 March 1971. Redesignated as: 357 Tactical Fighter Training Squadron on 1 July 1976; 357 Fighter Squadron on 1 November 1991. Combat in European Theater of Operations (ETO), 14 September 1943-25 April 1945. Combat in Southeast Asia, c. 13 June-c. 7 November 1965 and 8 February 1966-6 October 1970. Trained A-7 aircrews, July 1976-October 1979 and A-10 aircrews, October 1979-. Trained pilots transitioning from other aircraft and experienced A-10 pilots to qualify as A-10 instructor pilots, 2000-.
