The Coat of Arms was originally approved for the 508th Airborne Infantry Regiment on 4 Sep 1951. It was amended to correct the wording of the blazonry and description on 26 Nov 1951. The coat of arms was redesignated for the 508th Infantry on 3 Dec 1962. On 23 Sep 1966 a crest was added to the coat of arms.

Official blazon

Shield: Azure, on a bend Argent a lion passant guardant Gules, armed and langued of the first.
Crest: On a wreath Argent and Azure a pheon with fourteen barbs, divided per pale Or and Sable in front of a wyvern statant Gules.
Motto: FURY FROM THE SKY.

Origin/meaning

The Lion on the Bend is taken from the Arms of Normandy and alludes to the Regiment's participation in the Normandy Landings in 1944. The Bend itself alludes to the Rhineland. The Wyvern in the Crest alluds to the 508th Airborne Regimental Combat Team, which the Regiment formed part of during the 1950ies. The Pheon (Arrowhead) symbolises Normandy and Rhineland Combat Jumps. Motto not shown here "Fury from the Sky".
