5TH PERSONNEL GROUP, US ARMY

Coat of arms (crest) of the 5th Personnel Group, US Army

Official blazon

A gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in width, consisting of a dark blue pentagon, one point up bearing a gold fleur-de-lis charged with two diagonally crossed red quills superimposed by a sword also red, all enclosed in base by a green laurel wreath and encircled at top by a gold scroll inscribed “IN SUPPORT OF VICTORY” in red letters.

Origin/meaning

Dark blue and red are the colors traditionally associated with Personnel units. The pentagon recalls the insignia of the V Corps, which the unit supports and reflects the Group’s numerical designation. The quills, crossed to indicate strength, are combined with the sword to underscore the unit’s motto and mission. The unit’s campaign service in France, Europe and Italy is commemorated by the fleur-de-lis and wreath. Gold is emblematic of excellence and high achievement.

The Distinctive Unit Insignia was approved on 1 June 1990.
