Arms of Aabenraa

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted in 1922 and, in a different design, continued in 2007.

The arms are based on a seal known from 1421, which probably dates from around 1380. The arms show three mackerels, the main source of income for many centuries in the city has been fisheries.
