Aarsele.jpg

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on May 28, 1956.

Aarsele had no historical seals, so the municipality applied for the arms of the Gruuthuse family from Brugge, the most important land owners in the area until the late 16th century. The municipality of Aarsele was historically divided among a number of manors/estates, and there has not been a single overlord whose arms could be used. As the Gruuthuse manor was the largest and one of the oldest, it was decided to use those arms.

The supporter is Saint Martin, the local patron saint.
