ARCHDIOCESE OF LOS ANGELES

Denomination : Roman Catholic

Official blazon

Azure, three pairs of wings conjoined and erect, between the tips of each pair a rose, all or.

Origin/meaning

The arms contain three sets of angel wings, each guarding a golden rose. The golden rose symbolizes Mary, as the Mystical Rose, Queen of Angels. The angels' wings represent El Pueblo de Nuestra Señora de Los Angeles (now better known as LA).

The present arms were adopted upon the division of the Diocese of Monterey-Los Angeles into the Diocese of Los Angeles-San Diego and the Diocese of Monterey-Fresno in 1922. The arms have remained the same through the elevation of the Dioceses of Los Angeles-San Diego to an archdiocese.

Arms of Archbishops
