The coat of arms dates back to 1259 when Bassano became independent from the "Signoria" (i. e. domination) of the Da Romano family. No arms are known before that date. The meaning of the tower and lions is not known. It has been stated that the tower represents the reconquered liberty and the two lions represent the citizens who had promised to defend it. Another theory is that the tower is the 41 meter high local tower, that still exists today. The two lions then represented the citeis of Vicenza and Padova fighting for the possession of the Bassano territory. | The coat of arms dates back to 1259 when Bassano became independent from the "Signoria" (i. e. domination) of the Da Romano family. Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on April 21, 1907.
