CASTILLA-LA MANCHA

Status : Autonomous Region

Arms (crest) of Castilla-La Mancha

Official blazon

Partido. En el primer cuartel, en campo de gules un castillo de oro almenado, aclarado de azur y mazonado de sable. El segundo cuartel, campo de argento plata. |- |English | blazon wanted |}

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on June 30, 1983.

The castle is a canting symbol of Castilla, which means 'Land of Castles'. La Mancha literally means 'the stain' and it is a natural region in the centre of Spain that is actually like a huge spot or stain as it has almost no vegetation. A single silver field is thus chosen as a kind of canting symbol for La Mancha.
