Origin/meaning
The wavy stripes hark back to Bishop Richard’s place of birth (Ndola, the Zambian Arms consisting of similar stripes in black and silver), blue a reminder of Our Lady and the red a reminder of the English Martyrs. The Crosses of Jerusalem are a reference to Bishop Richard’s membership of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem.
Bishop Richard’s motto is Pax et Gaudium in Domino - Peace and Joy in the Lord.
