Origin/meaning

The border is silver, red, blue, silver, red, blue, silver and red. The field is gold with two black sticks surmounted by silver balls. Crest the Helmet of king Kamehameha the Great in red and gold on a garland of palm branches. Motto: Defenders of Pacific Pearls. The Stripes of the Border are from the Old Hawaiian Flag, the Sticks are so called Tabu sticks formerly placed at the entrance to the Hawaiian King's Palace. The Embattled border symbolises fortifications. The Crest symbolises the fact that the main fort of the Coast Defenses of Pearl Harbour was named Fort Kamehameha.
