Impaled. Dexter: Argent, an orle gules, over all on a bend azure three mullets of the field (See of Richmond); Sinister: Quarterly I and 4, per fess argent and vert, a stag trippant proper between three trefoils counterchanged of the field (O'Connell) ; 2 and 3 Azure, on a chief or three martlets gules (Wray).

Origin/meaning

As common in US episcopal heraldry, the arms show the arms of the diocese impaled with the personal arms of the bishop.

The personal arms combine the arms of the O'Connell and Wray families (hie paternal and maternal families. The motto is taken from the Wray family.
