The shield of the Diocese of Tyler is green with a gold cross just off center. Green, the color of hope, is the color of the piney woods and forests so prominent in the East Texas landscape. The cross indicates the historical tie between the famous Old Spanish Missions of San Antonio and those of East Texas. The gold cross thus formed resembles the arms of Pope [[John Paul II]], used here to say that the erection of the diocese tokes place in the year that
Pope John Paul II visited Texas.
The silver five pointed star is the symbol of the state of Texas; the pine trees refer again to the forests.

Country : United States
Denomination : Roman Catholic

Established : 1987

Arms (crest) of Diocese of Tyler
Official blazon
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The shield of the Diocese of Tyler is green with a gold cross just off center. Green, the color of hope, is the color of the piney woods and forests so prominent in the East Texas landscape. The cross indicates the historical tie between the famous Old Spanish Missions of San Antonio and those of East Texas. The gold cross thus formed resembles the arms of Pope John Paul II, used here to say that the erection of the diocese tokes place in the year that Pope John Paul II visited Texas.

The silver five pointed star is the symbol of the state of Texas; the pine trees refer again to the forests.
