The hand Argent on Azure is the traditional identifying sign of the arms of Esplugues, and it may be related to the canting arms of the baron of [[Maldà ]] ("mà" in Catalan meaning hand), Rafael Amat i de Cortada (1746-1818), the owner of Can Cortada, the most important manor in the town.
