Bishop of Limburg

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms as Auxiliary and as Bishop show largely the same symbols. IN the auxiliary arms the three wavy pales refer to the Rhein, Maas and Niers rivers, they also symbolise baptism. The wheatears refer to his parent's farm and the eucharist. The upper half shows the arms of the Diocese of Münster and the lower half the cloak of the Madonna of Kevelaer, a famous statue. The bishop was born in Kevelaer.

In the arms as bishop the same symbols appear in a different composition, with the addition of the arms of the Diocese of Limburg in the first quarter.
