HMCS KINGSTON, ROYAL CANADIAN NAVY

Coat of arms (crest) of the HMCS Kingston, Royal Canadian Navy

Official blazon

Badge: Gules a griffin Or armed and langued Azure issuant from a crown vallary Argent holding in its claws an anchor Argent.

Origin/meaning

The crown vallary represents the various fortifications built since Kingston’s foundation. The griffin is one of the supporters of the arms of the City of Kingston, a reference to the griffin's claws found in the arms of the Comte de Frontenac, who established a fort on the site of Kingston in 1673. The anchor alludes to the City’s rich naval affiliations.

The badge was approved by The Canadian Heraldic Authority on June 1, 1995.
