Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on October 28, 1963.
The bear is a canting symbol, the name is derived from Ursus, Latin for bear. The bear holds a red ball in his front paws. This ball is derived from a local legend. When bears were still common in the area, it was customary for the last person in the row when collecting the hay, to carry a ball on a line. This ball would attract the bears and they would play with it. They would thus not attack the people.
When applying for the arms, the State Archives did not take the legend serious, but finally gave in to show a ball on the arms.
The golden field refers to the former goldmining in the Fundkofel area.
