JAMES JOHN KEANE

Born : August 26, 1857 in Joliet, Illinois, USA
Deceased : August 2, 1929 in Dubuque, Iowa, USA

Bishop of Cheyenne, 1902–1911
Archbishop of Dubuque, 1911-1929

Arms of James John Keane

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

As common in US episcopal heraldry, the arms show the arms of the diocese impaled with the personal arms of the bishop.

The three fish are taken from a Keane family arms from Ireland (not necessarily the family of the archbishop). The scallop is the symbol of St. James, the baptismal saint of the archbishop.
