JAMES JOSEPH GERRARD

Born: June 9, 1897
Deceased: June 3, 1991

Auxiliary Bishop of Fall River, 1959-1976; Titular Bishop of Forma

Arms (crest) of James Joseph Gerrard
Official blazon
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The red shiels symbolises charity, the silver cross the Catholic faith.

The four scallop shells refer to Bishop Gerrard's first name, James, as the scallop is the emblem of Saint James the Elder. The triangle represents the Most Holy Trinity and also Saint Joseph the carpenter, Bishop Gerrard's second patron saint.

The achievement is completed with the heraldic insignia of a prelate of the rank of bishop by instruction of the Holy See, of March 1969, confirmed in March 2001.
