Official blazon
Impaled. Dexter: Quarterly, azure and argent, a cross quarterly of the last and gules, in dexter chief a crescent, over all in fess point an open book of the seoond, garnished and charged with the legend " Deus Lux Mea Est" or; Sinister: Or, on a chevron sable between in chief two trefoils slipped and in base a plow of the same, three mullets argent.
Motto: Consilio et impetu
Origin/meaning
In the first impalement are the arms of The Catholic University of America. The second impalement bears the arms of the Bishop which are derived from the seal of St. Charles Seminary, Overbrook, where he was professor and rector for eighteen years. The motto is that of a Corrigan family of Ireland.
