Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on March 30, 1965.

The keys in the upper half indicate that the village was first mentioned in 1055 in a document issued by the Bishop of Minden. The key is the symbol of the Diocese of Minden.

The tree trunk in the lower half indicates that the village developed by clearing the forest. A tree trunk is also part of the arms of the Lords of Lehnte (see below), who have their estate(s) in or near the village since around 1300 until present time.
