Wappen von Lienz
Official blazon
German blazon wanted !

The arms are derived from symbols of the Counts of Görz, to which the city historically belonged. Since the 13th century the local governors used a seal with the arms of the Counts of Görz, which are identical to the above arms, except for the rose. The city Lienz itself had no rights to use its own seals or arms until the mid 15th century. The city choose as arms a rose, used by the Counts of Görz on their coins. In the 16th and 17th century the city used only the arms with a rose. Later, after the extinction of the Counts of Görz, the arms of the governors and the city were combined.
