Origin/meaning

The arms were registered in 1996.

The arms are based on the oldest seal of the city, which is known from 1351, but the style indicates an origin around 1300. The arms show a canting tree (skov=forest). The claw is probably just an additional symbol to distinguish the seal and arms from other cities using a tree.
