Arms of Ogre (town)

Official blazon

Zilā laukā trīs melnas priedes pēdā balstās uz sudraba viļņotas sijas.

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted in 1938.

The name of Ogre comes from the Ogre river. The Ogre village is first time mentioned in 1206, called Oger in German.
In 1861, when a railway Riga-Daugavpils was built ,inhabitants of Riga started to build summer-cottages here, and in 1862 Ogre became a health-resort. In 1928 city rights were granted.

The arms show the beautiful river and pinewoods of Ogre.
