Escudo de Ourol

Official blazon

De sinople, banda de oro, acompañada de un vichelocrego y gaimarelo (Oriolus oriolus) en cada hueco; bordura de plata cargada de ocho pinos al natural. Al timbre corona real cerrada.

Origin/meaning

The birds are canting, they are Golden Orioles (Oriolus oriolus). The golden bend is also canting, from Or, gold. The bend is also derived from the arms of the 14th century Don Fernán Pérez de Andrade, whose arams can still be seen in the local parish church. The green field symbolises the agricultural character of the municipality.

The eight pine trees in the bordure refer to the eight parishes in the municipality, as well as to the importance of forestry.
