Wappen von Pöls

Official blazon

In rotem Schild auf silbernem, mit einem roten Zahnrad belegten Dreiberg drei silberne gezinnte Wehrtürme.

Origin/meaning

The three mountains are the symbol for the Alps. Pöls is located in a valley in the mountains, called "Pölstal". The towers are referring to the castles around Pöls, called: Offenburg, Reifenstein, Sauerbrunn and Gusterheim. Due to the fact that Pöls is an important industrial region for upper Styria since the 15th century, there is a cogwheel in the lower part of the arms. Pöls produced pulp and paper, was important for manufactory, and is an important supplier for paper and pulp today.
