PETER MICHAEL MUHICH

Born : May 13, 1961
Deceased :

Bishop of Rapid City, 2020-present

Arms of Peter Michael Muhich

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

As common in US episcopal heraldry, the arms show the arms of the diocese impaled with the personal arms of the bishop.

The personal arms are quartered with in the first quarter the star representing Our Lady who is the patroness of both the Diocese of Duluth (Our Lady of the Rosary) and the Diocese of Rapid City (Our Lady of Perpetual Help) and Our Lady of Fatima. The red keys in the second quarter represent my name “Peter”. The third quarter shows a miner's lamp which represents the Iron Range where the bishop grew up. The fourth quarter shows the cross from the arms of the Diocese of Duluth, where the bishop was ordained a priest.

The motto is “Exemplum Dedi Vobis” which is the first part of Jn 13: 15 from the foot washing: “I have given you an example”.
