PORZ AM RHEIN

State : Nordrhein-Westfalen
District (Kreis) : until 1974 Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis
Incorporated into : 1974 Köln

Wappen von Porz/Arms (crest) of Porz
Official blazon
German blazon wanted
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted in 1935.

The arms show a gate, which is a canting symbol, the name may have been derived from the Latin Porta, or gate. The gate also appeared on the local seal dating from the early 15th century. The lion is the lion of the Counts of Berg, to which the area belonged in medieval times.
