ROGER JOSEPH FOYS
Born : July 27, 1945
Deceased :
Bishop of Covington, 2002-present
Official blazon
Origin/meaning
As common in US episcopal heraldry, the arms show the arms of the diocese impaled with the personal arms of the bishop.
The Bishop's personal half of the shield is divided into blue and red quadrants. The white fleur-de-lis is a symbol for St. Mary, and also of the Cistercian Order and Blessed Roger Ellant (a Cistercian abbot of the twelfth century).
The white lily in the lower half signifies St. Joseph. By these two symbols the baptismal patrons of Bishop Fays are represented.
The red, white and blue colors also honor his Slovenian heritage.
The Latin phrase on the scroll beneath the shield, "Let your light Shine," (Matt. 5: 16) is the episcopal motto by which Bishop Fays will guide the Diocese of Covington in the years ahead.
