Origin/meaning

The Town of Strängnäs has had an image of St. Peter and St. Paul in its seal since 1315, since they were the patron saints of the cathedral of the town. The arms were however formally granted as late as in 1937, and then with a somewhat more complicated blazon than the present, which was written in 1977, after the merger with the other municipalities.
