Official blazon
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

Thirst RDC never used arms. The arms displayed here are of the Town Council. These have, as far as I know, not officially been granted.

The arms are from the Mowbray family, who held the manor from Norman times until 1476. They built a castle here and chartered the Borough and its market.

The JaJa cards below showed rather different arms for the town.

Arms for Thirsk as used on a JaJa postcard +/- 1905

The arms are now used by the town council.
