THOMAS WILLIAM DRUMM

Born: July 12, 1871
Deceased: October 24, 1933

Bishop of Des Moines, 1919-1933

Arms (crest) of Thomas William Drumm
Official blazon
English blazon wanted
  • (personal arms) Argent, a chevron azure charged with a trefoil of the field, between three spear-heads gules.

Origin/meaning

As common in US episcopal heraldry, the arms show the arms of the diocese impaled with the personal arms of the bishop.

The chevron is a canting element for the name Drumm(er), being of Irish/Scottish origin and meaning ridge or hill. The spear-heads are among the attributes of Saint Thomas, the Ordinary's Patron, and the trefoil of Saint Patrick indicates his cure before his advancement to the episcopate.
