VEHKALAHTI

Region : Kymenlaakso
Former province : Uusimaa (1945-1997 Kymi, 1997-2009 Etelä-Suomi)
Incorporated into : 2003 Hamina

Vehkalahti Kuntavaakuna / Kommunvapen

Official blazon

Sinisessä kentässä kultainen suovehka, jonka hedelmäterttu punainen ja tämän suojus hopeinen.

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on April 21, 1951.

The arms show a bog arum (Calla palustris) plant, suovehka in Finnish, which is a canting symbol.

After the merger with Hamina, the new town used the Vehkalahti arms from 2003-2012.

The old seals of the town showed initially a fisherman, later a crown and a boat, similar to the Hamina arms.
