Description: On a shield 3 1/2 inches (8.89 cm) in height by 3 1/4 inches (8.26 cm) in width blazoned: Per fess Argent and Azure a demi-titan issuant from base of the first garnished Sable wearing a Black breast plate detailed White grasping in his dexter hand a lightning bolt bendwise of the fourth, below in chief a bar dancetty Gules inscribed “SOUTH” in White letters all within a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) Blue border.
Shoulder Loop Insignia. Description: On a Gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height consisting of a shield blazoned: Per bend Azure and Gules, a bend Argent. Overall a sunflower Proper slipped and leaved Vert. Attached to base a tri-parted scroll base metal inscribed “COURAGE AND LOYALTY” in Black letters. |
Origin/meaning
Shoulder Sleeve Insignia: The shoulder sleeve insignia reflects the school colors. The titan is the school mascot. The power and force of the school mascot is reflected in the cadets’ dedication to school, community and country. The dancetty bar resembles the letter “W” and reflects the school’s location.
Shoulder Loop Insignia: Red, white, black and blue are the school colors. The shield represents the commitment to a full education with the divisions of the shield describing scholastics, athletics and the arts. The state flower of Kansas is reflecting overall the cadet’s dedication to school, community and state. The unit’s motto is “COURAGE AND LOYALTY”.
The Shoulder Sleeve Insignia was approved on 20 July 1998. The Shoulder Loop Insignia was approved on 19 June 2001.
