Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on June 3, 1948.

As no historical seals or arms were known, the arms were newly designed. The beech tree symbolises the local medieval court (Freistuhl), which was held near the 'iron beech' in Wildewiese, the estate of the Counts of Arnsberg. The small shield shows two swords of Justice, shown in the colours of the State of Köln, to which the area historically belonged.
