Albums
The history of the German issues of the Kaffee Hag albums is complicated, due to two wars and the changes in the political situation in Germany.
Between 1913 and 1939 two series of albums have been issued.
The first series was started in 1913 and not finished due the First World War. In 1927 a second series was started, which was also not finished, due to the Second World War.
Although both series supposedly would contain around 3000 stamps, only 703 and around 2811 were actually published (not counting the numerous reprints and variations).
Due to the large number of stamps and the many other items connected to these albums, the two series are dealt with separately.

Third series
In the 1950s the company was thinking of continuing the album series, but in the end decided not to. Instead they issued a series of 8 books in the early 1960s with the arms of cities in West Germany. As Otto Hupp had passed away in 1940, the arms were now designed by Klemens Stadler. The books were send to doctors in 1964/65 (see letters below) as part of the promotion for the coffein-free coffee of the company. No advertising was made in the coffee or in journals contrary to the two previous series. The books could be obtained in regular bookshops and doctors could be kept udated by filling in a card (see images below)..
