The arms were officially granted on April 18, 2007.

The arms show a number of Swedish elements, as the village was founded in 1782 by Swedish settlers from what is now Estonia. The colours are the Swedish colours and the three crowns are taken from the arms of [[Sweden]]. Only a few people from Swedish origin remain in the area though.
The grapes indicate the viticulture in the area.

These arms probably refer to the village of Schlangendorf (snake-village), one of the three German villages, which were settled here in the early 19th century.
