The Colours CRimson and Golden Yellow are those of the Ordnance Corps,  symbolises origin as the 72nd Ordnance Battalion. The Star is form the Arms of the City of Cherbourg, and is indicative of the Battalion's Baptism of fire at Quelthou near Cherbourg during World War II. The Lightning flashes are form the Insignia of the European Theater of Operations, carried by the Battalion during World War II. The Cloud of Detonation symbolises the Ammuntion Sopport Role. The Chevron in the Crest is indicative of the Support role. The Dragon alludes to the nickname "Steel Dragons". The Fleur-de-lis symbolises service in France during World War II. The Star is indicative of reactivation in Texas.
The Coat of Arms was approved for the 72nd Ordnance Battalion on 26 February 1993 and redesignated for the 72nd Suppport Battalion on 17 July 2011.
