The arms were officially granted on April 11, 1983.

The arms show a letter K taken from the arms of the Kaisheim Abbey, as the abbey had many possessions in the area from 1269-1803. The unicorn has been used on the local seal of Tapfheim since the 16th century. The cross is derived from the arms of the Coutns of Oettingen, who also had some possessions in the municipality. The cross in the circle refers to the Abbey of the Holy Cross in Donauwörth, which had possessions iin Donaumünster and  Zusum-Rettingen. The colours refer to two other entities that owned part of the area, the State of Augsburg and the St. Ulrich and Afra monasteries in Augsburg.
