Wallerfangen is the oldest city in Saarland, it got city righths in the late 13<sup>th</sup> century from Duke Friedrich III of [[Lorraine]]. It lost its importance in the 17<sup>th</sup> century after the building of the fortress in Saarlouis. The arms are based on the oldest known seal, dating from 1614.
